About: During the summer of 2016, I was given the chance to report at the Democratic National Convention for PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs. We talked to people on the streets of Philadelphia about this year’s election. It was interesting to see what young democrats felt because of their huge support for Bernie Sanders.

About: There has been a changing tide of Americans moving away from processed foods and toward food grown locally at organic farms. I wanted to explore how farms are catering to those interested in eating local food. This story focuses on the unique farming methods used by an urban farmer in Austin, TX. Originally part of a 7-minute documentary for Pflugerville’s PBS Club, which collaborates with PBS Student Reporting Labs. After going through the editing process, I realized it flowed better as two shorter stories.

About: With Americans becoming more conscious of the quality of the food they ingest, I decided to explore the benefits and challenges of sourcing and purchasing locally grown food. I traveled to a local high school, to interview students in the culinary arts program. I hoped to gain the perspective of millennials, and their stance on quality food. This was originally part of a 7-minute documentary but was split into two parts during the editing process.

About: While participating in the Missouri Urban Journalism Workshop during the summer of 2014, I anchored a KOMU-TV broadcast for the workshop. This was the first experience I’ve had behind a news desk as well as using a teleprompter. It was a thrilling yet surreal experience, because one of my goals is to report news to the masses on a national level.
